The Rekooperators featuring Al Kooper, Anton Fig, Jimmy Vivino, and Mike Merritt...
"A very special evening with Al Kooper in celebration of his 60th birthday. It is with great honor that Joe’s hosts Al Kooper’s 60th birthday bash, as Mr. Kooper was one of the first artists who performed at Joe’s Pub upon it’s opening five years ago and helped define the quality of artistry that Joe’s Pub has become renowned for over these years. And even more importantly, it is easily acknowledged that Al Kooper has helped define the quality of artistry in modern pop music for the last 40 years. When not performing in his own groups such as The Rekooperators , The Blues Project and Blood Sweat & Tears, Al was producing Lynard Skynard’s hit albums and adding the signature organ and keyboard riffs in Bob Dylan’s "Like A Rolling Stone" and The Rolling Stones’ hit "You Can’t Always Get What You Want." This birthday celebration at Joe’s Pub will showcase much of the material he has either created or participated in over the past 40 years. The 7:30pm show will feature Al Kooper in a rare solo appearance while the 9:30pm show will feature Al Kooper and his Rekooperators primed and ready to blues it up in a rare appearance by this aggregation.
